Course Description

Prerequisite: FRIT-F 300 or FRIT-S 300

Taking a comparative, trans-Atlantic perspective, this course offers a critical survey of contemporary French society, politics, and identity whose goal is to move beyond picturesque stereotypes. We will examine French collective mentalities, behaviors, and values, understanding their links to social and political institutions (for example, the social security system, lawmaking and governance procedures), as well as focusing on the place of ethnic, racial, and religious minorities in France today.
