Italian Opportunities
Engaging course topics
Some topics include:
- Italian language through fashion, cuisine, or opera
- Masterpieces of Italian literature from Dante to Elsa Morante
- Italian theater workshop and public speaking
- Great films from neorealism to Italian-style comedy to Fellini
- Contemporary and popular Italian culture (comic books, graphic novels and more)
- The Myth of Rome and Renaissance Florence
- Journeys and migrations, from Italy to the rest of the world
- Eat, live, die: food and family in Italian American culture
New ways to practice speaking!
- M203 Conversation with Italians Course: this course allows you to connect with Italian students, improve your linguistic skills, and explore the Italian lifestyle.
- M395 Global Experience in Italian Course (coming next year): a week-long stay in Bologna during spring break that allows you to explore the culture of the city and your future career by connecting with the Italian employers.
Extracurricular activities
Our students engage in many fun activities outside of the classroom. Some activities include:
- Sharing your hobbies and talents in Italian
- Playing Italian games, preparing and sharing Italian foods and drinks at Circolo Italiano
- Attending Italian films, operas, and theater events
- Experiencing the chance to hear expert authors and artists speak about their work
- Playing soccer, singing karaoke, joining a bocce team

Indiana University residential programs
Some of our students choose to live in a living-learning center to enhance their college experience.
- Global Living-Learning Center – a multi-lingual dorm with activities exploring world cultures
- Collins Living-Learning Center – an artistic atmosphere with international guests in the heart of campus
Study abroad in one of our overseas programs
Many of our students elect to participate in overseas study. You can choose to study in a variety of locations for either a semester or an academic year.
- Indiana University’s Florence summer program
- Indiana University’s Bologna program – A tradition for more than 50 years (semester and year-long options, with scholarships available)
- Plus, eight other Indiana University co-sponsored programs in Italy (summer, semester, year)

Our department offers or facilitates a variety of scholarships and awards. Some include:
