Internships

Develop your skills

Internships offer you a chance to develop both technical and transferable skills while making vital professional contacts with others in the field. You can begin exploring internship opportunities, including overseas study programs with internships, as early as your freshman year.

Our students can benefit from two exciting summer internships: one in Paris and one in Rome.

French Undergraduate Teaching Internship

Our department selects a group of advanced French undergraduate students for the opportunity to serve as conversation group leaders. As undergraduate teaching interns (UTINs), these advanced undergraduates receive one credit for FRIT-X 471 and are trained by either the coordinator of language instruction, Dr. Kelly Sax, or by the director of undergraduate studies in French, Professor Barbara Vance.

Teaching Assistant Program in France

The TAPIF (Teaching Assistance Program In France) program is run by the French Ministry of Education and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy. TAPIF places Americans between 20-35 years of age as assistant English teachers in elementary and secondary schools throughout France. The program is a great way to gain experience speaking the language of the target country in addition to living in the country and experiencing its respective culture firsthand while working as a teacher in France. Each year, a few of our BA graduates participate in the program, and they have come back with stronger French skills and wonderful stories to share.

Applications will open again in October 2019 for the 2020-2021 school year.
