Giving Opportunities

Help us maintain our tradition of excellence

We depend on the support of our alumni and friends to maintain the superior quality of our educational programs. Without your generosity, we would be unable to provide the unique opportunities which make the Department of French and Italian at Indiana University one of the most vibrant of its kind in the country.

You have a number of giving options through our Indiana University Foundation accounts:

French and Italian Enrichment Fund
Gifts to this account make possible our French Club and the Circolo Italiano, cocurricular programs that help establish solid language skills and make language learning practical and fun. This fund also provides teaching awards for our best associate instructors, who are graduate students in our programs.

Albert Valdman Graduate Student Research and Travel Fund
Gifts to this account support research and travel for graduate students in French linguistics.

Professor Michael Berkvam Graduate Student Fund
Gifts to this account support graduate students, especially in French film and contemporary literature.

Lander MacClintock Fund
Named in honor of a late professor in the department who taught both French and Italian, funds from this account are used to give an award in alternating years to a student of French and a student of Italian.

Peter Cannings Fund
Created in memory of a bright young French linguist who died in an auto accident, this fund supports an annual award to an outstanding student in the French Linguistics graduate program.

John K. Hyde Fund
John Hyde was a professor of French in the department, and donations to this fund provide an annual award to an undergraduate student for excellence in French.

We also rely on endowed funds to bring guest speakers to campus and to recruit and support our graduate students.
