About Vincent Bouchard

My research deals with the audiovisual mediation of orality (speech and gesture), from a technical (medium, practices, institutions) and cultural (popular cultures, reception, aesthetic) perspectives, with a main focus on Francophone cultures in West Africa (Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso) and in North America (Quebec, Acadia, Louisiana).

I currently work on the various forms of cinematographic practives developed in West Africa since the 1960’s, including the conditions experienced by early filmmakers, the popular reception of films, and the practices of educational and colonial screenings and their impact on African cinema.
