We are pleased to announce that the French Embassy has approved the Department’s request to establish a Center of Excellence at Indiana University. Currently, there are only 23 such centers in the country hosted by major research universities. The creation of such a Center recognizes the reputation of our French programs, and the strength of the College of Arts & Sciences and of IU in the areas of research and internationalization across the disciplines. The mission of French Centers of Excellence is to "foster Franco-American debates on today’s crucial issues, promote Franco-American relations through interdisciplinary teaching programs," as well as "encourage public-private and research partnerships with France." The Center will create a productive synergy with the existing IU-Sorbonne partnership while also facilitating access to support from the agencies of the French government in the US.
In the coming months, the Department will reach out to IUB faculty in other fields whose research is related to France to join the French Center of Excellence as affiliated faculty members. Funding from the French Embassy will be available for special projects, and a Center website will be launched. Stay tuned!
