Course Description

In this course we will explore foreign language teaching and learning from a variety of theoretical and practical perspectives that inform our daily decisions about effective methodologies for fostering second language acquisition. You will read and discuss a variety of materials pertaining to all second language skill areas and cultural proficiency. Additional components of this course include teaching for creative and critical thinking, multiple intelligences theory, second language acquisition research methods, an introduction to teaching literature, expertise in teaching, performative aspects of teaching and learning, ongoing professional development and the creation of a formal teaching dossier. Assignments range from short critical commentaries, discussion questions, annotated bibliographies, and collaborative presentations, to an oral exam and final teaching dossier materials.
