Professor Vincent Bouchard, along with Professor Terri Francis, director of IU’s Black Film Center/Archive, is organizing a workshop to take place Sept. 5-6 at IUB entitled P.S. Vieyra: Pioneer of African Cinemas, Filmmaker, Producer and Historian. Scholars from the US, Canada, France, and Senegal will discuss the legacy of Paulin Soumanou Vieyra (1925-1987), who was born in Benin and spent most of his adult life in Senegal. Director of over 30 documentaries, Vieyra was also a founding member of the Fédération panafricaine des cinéastes, director of the national cinema news service of Senegal under president Léopold Sédar Senghor and production manager for Ousmane Sembène.
