Welcome to FRIT, Connie!

We are delighted to introduce Ms. Connie May, our new department administrator! Connie joined FRIT in August 2022, bringing a wealth of experience to the job. She began her career at IU 31 years ago as an assistant to legendary Vice President Terry Clapacs, then moved first to the Department of Comparative Literature and later to Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures. Connie’s tireless contributions to setting up the new Hamilton Lugar School of Global & International Studies earned her IU’s coveted Staff Merit Award in 2016.

FRIT was privileged in September 2022 to celebrate alumnus William Carter’s (PhD, French, 1971) return to Bloomington to accept a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University. Dr. Carter (Distinguished Professor Emeritus, University of Alabama) is an internationally renowned Proust scholar and the editor of Yale University Press’s recent English-language volumes of À la recherche du temps perdu. FRIT graduate and undergraduate students had front-row seats at the event and also enjoyed a special coffee hour with Bill and his wife Lynn.
