The Department of French and Italian is home to 23 full-time faculty, plus a number of visiting faculty and active emeriti professors.     Professor Scalabrini took over as head of the Department on July 1, 2015. The Chair provides academic guidance, communicates with the Dean's office, and makes important departmental faculty appointments such as the Directors of Graduate Study and the Directors of Undergraduate Study. The Chair's role is to conceive and encourage scholarly and pedagogical projects that make the Department a leader in the University and in the Department's three academic disciplines, as well as to ensure its effective administration.

    Isabel supervises the other office staff, serves as personal secretary to the chair, and serves as fiscal officer for the department (responsibility for accounts and payroll). She is responsible for class scheduling, facilitating guest speaker visits, coordination of faculty tenure and promotion dossiers, and the development of office policies. She also serves as data supervisor for student information and as fiscal approver for all human resources operations. She coordinates faculty recruitment efforts and serves as the department's building representative.
