The Michael Berkvam Graduate Student Fund

This fund honors the memory of Michael Berkvam, a faculty member in the Department of French and Italian from 1971 until his retirement in 2006. Professor Berkvam was known and loved by generations of students and was a popular instructor in the Hutton Honors College as well as the Department of French and Italian. He started his scholarly career in the field of 18th-century French literature, mainly Voltaire, but he later turned his emphasis to the literature and cinema of France during and after World War II. Thus, in awarding fellowships and grants from this account, preference is given to students studying French film in its literary cultural context or contemporary French fiction.

The Department is grateful to Professor Berkvam’s widow, Mirka Berkvam, for carrying forward Michael's deep dedication to his students by creating this fellowship fund, to which many alumni and friends have donated as well. Please help us support students in Michael’s memory by donating today.
